We frequently hear people we consider successful speak of their life’s “journey”. Whilst we often may not consider that person to have been “successful” in our eyes until they have reached a particular “destination” in their lives, most will tell us that it was their journey that defined whatever level of success they may have achieved, and that the destination we admire so much was merely a certain point culminating from that journey, and that the achievement of reaching the destination followed many learnings along the way – learnings from experiences many would consider failures, but that the successful person we admire so much considers a fundamental part of their “success”.
As has been the case throughout history, nearly every successful voyage begins with some variation of a map and a compass. The dream-filled voyager sets out on an adventure of excitement, eager to reach an imagined destination considered worthy of their quest – or at the very least more tolerable than that from which they wish to escape - only to discover that the wind and the seas continually divert their course, forcing them to constantly adjust in the hope of realigning themselves with their dream destination. In doing so, their journey opens them up to the discovery of even greater wonders than they would ever have dared to dream...
